Public Communication Video

BLOOD DONATION AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Press and Information Office of Cyprus

Animation Direction and Production

This animated awareness video was developed by one and a half animation studio in Cyprus for a national blood donation campaign commissioned by the Press and Information Office of Cyprus in collaboration with the Cyprus Blood Centre (Κέντρο Αίματος).

Designed as a motion graphics-driven public communication piece, the film frames blood types as teams — inviting viewers to join #TeamLife (#ΟμάδαΖωής) and encouraging voluntary blood donation among eligible donors aged 17–66.

VISUALISING BLOOD DONATION AWARENESS THROUGH MOTION GRAPHICS

Operating on a national level, the Cyprus Blood Centre is responsible for the collection, testing, preparation, storage and distribution of human blood and blood components across hospital blood banks in Cyprus, in accordance with European Directive 2002/98/EC.

one and a half approaches the subject through visual metaphor, framing blood types as teams and translating this idea into a motion graphics language built from simple characters, bold typographic forms and symbolic compositions. A restrained palette of reds, pinks and warm neutrals, combined with subtle texture and deliberate motion, creates a visual rhythm that balances clarity with emotional tone while supporting the objectives of a national public awareness campaign.

Within the short campaign format, the animation uses clarity, rhythm and visual metaphor to communicate participation, solidarity and shared responsibility.

Voluntary blood donation plays an essential role in supporting the healthcare system in Cyprus. The country has one of the highest rates of voluntary blood donors per capita worldwide, reflecting a strong culture of civic participation and community support.

Each year, approximately 70,000 units of blood are collected through voluntary donations to supply hospitals across the island and support medical treatments, surgeries and emergency care.

Public awareness campaigns such as this one aim to maintain that culture of participation and encourage new generations of donors to join the national effort.

ANIMATION AND MOTION GRAPHICS IN PUBLIC COMMUNICATION

Projects such as this demonstrate how animation and motion graphics can support public and organisational communication by transforming complex or sensitive messages into clear and engaging visual narratives. The approach focused on creating attractive, eye-catching visuals, carefully visualising the script to carry emotional resonance while maintaining clarity of message.

Quality motion design was synchronised with themed music to strengthen emotional impact and maintain viewer attention within a short campaign format. For one and a half, this approach reflects a broader studio practice: developing animation that balances visual appeal, narrative intention and structural clarity so that public communication projects remain both accessible and meaningful to their audiences.

This project forms part of the studio’s broader body of work in narrative, documentary, cultural and public communication contexts.
