TH-EROS FESTIVAL PROMOTIONAL ANIMATION

Φεστιβάλ Θ-έρως

Animation Direction and Production

The Θ-έρως / Th-eros Festival was launched in Larnaca as a public cultural event celebrating Cypriot identity through music, dance, food and shared experience. Held at Europe Square along the city’s seafront, the festival transformed the coastal area into a gathering space where traditional performance, local crafts and regional products came together within a lively community setting.

The promotional animation for the festival was created by one and a half, a direction-led animation studio based in Larnaca, Cyprus. Being locally based made the project particularly meaningful for the studio, as it presented an opportunity to contribute to a cultural initiative taking place within the city where the studio operates.

The event invited visitors to experience Cypriot culture not only as heritage but as a living social tradition. Music, dancing and food created a warm and welcoming atmosphere that reflected the rhythm of summer life in Larnaca and the broader cultural character of Cyprus.

TV / WEB AD - Stop motion collage animation created for the first Θ-έρως Festival in Larnaca, Cyprus

COLLAGE ANIMATION FOR A CULTURAL FESTIVAL PROMO

Created as a TV and web advertisement, the promotional film introduces the first edition of the Θ-έρως / Th-eros Festival and its celebratory atmosphere. The aim was to capture the social energy of the event and invite audiences to experience a summer gathering centred on music, dance and shared cultural expression in Larnaca.

The creative brief, developed by We Come One Agency, proposed a stop motion collage aesthetic that combines traditional Cypriot imagery with a contemporary graphic language. Photography, textures and illustrated elements were assembled into animated compositions that move through moments of music, dance and celebration.

Circular formations of traditional dancers, musical instruments appearing in rhythmic motion and glimpses of the coastal landscape situate the festival within the seafront setting of the city. Together these elements create a visual rhythm that echoes the movement and atmosphere of the event itself.

Through the collage technique, different cultural references coexist within a lively animated frame. Traditional imagery is presented through a modern visual approach that speaks to contemporary audiences while remaining connected to the cultural roots of the festival.

ANIMATION FOR CULTURAL EVENTS AND PUBLIC COMMUINICATION

How can cultural organisations and festivals communicate the atmosphere of an event before it takes place? Promotional animation offers a way to translate music, movement and shared experience into visual storytelling that audiences can immediately connect with.

Through carefully structured imagery and rhythm, animation can evoke the identity of a place and the character of a cultural gathering. Short promotional films allow festivals and public initiatives to present their spirit and cultural context in a concise and engaging format.

For agencies, institutions and event organisers, animation provides a flexible medium that can support campaigns across broadcast, digital and social platforms while maintaining a clear visual identity for the event.

This project forms part of the studio’s broader body of work in documentary, cultural and public communication contexts. Explore more projects on our Work page.
