EU RESEARCH COMUNICATION VIDEO
HuMUS PROJECT

Agroecology Europe

Animation Direction and Production

HuMUS (Healthy Municipal Soils) is a European research initiative contributing to the objectives of the EU Mission Soil programme. The project focuses on the role of municipalities and regional authorities in protecting and restoring soil health through local governance, environmental planning and community participation.

Created by one and a half Animation Studio, Cyprus, this EU research communication video introduces the goals of the HuMUS project and its contribution to sustainable soil management across Europe. The initiative brings together municipalities, researchers, citizens, farmers and land stakeholders to develop locally adapted approaches that strengthen soil resilience and support long term environmental sustainability.

RESEARCH PROJECT EXPLAINER VIDEO FOR EU SCIENCE COMMUNICATION

The animation was developed as a research project explainer video presenting the structure and objectives of the HuMUS initiative within the EU Mission Soil programme. The film outlines the importance of soil health for ecosystems and regional economies while explaining the role municipalities can play in sustainable soil management.

Through a concise narrative, the video introduces several key project initiatives including the Soil Stewards training programme, regional sustainability assessment tools, participatory pilot actions and Territorial Management Agreements designed to support long term collaboration between municipalities, researchers and communities.

The visual approach prioritises clarity and structure. Complex environmental research themes are translated into a coherent visual language that supports understanding without oversimplifying the subject. As a piece of research communication animation, the film functions as an accessible EU research communication video, guiding audiences through the relationships between soil governance, community participation and sustainable land practices.

ANIMATION FOR RESEARCH AND SCIENCE COMMUNICATION

How can research projects communicate complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences?

Animation and motion graphics offer research institutions, universities and European initiatives a flexible tool for presenting complex research frameworks in accessible visual form. Science communication animation can help translate research outcomes, collaborative programmes and environmental initiatives into narratives that support understanding and engagement.

For EU research projects, institutions and public organisations, animation can support communication strategies that make research ideas visible, understandable and relevant to wider audiences.

This project forms part of the studio’s broader body of work in documentary, cultural and public communication contexts. Explore more projects on our Work page.
