one and a half is a direction-led animation studio in Cyprus, founded and led by Yiannis Philiastides.
We create animation for projects that require clarity, structure and emotional intelligence.
Our work spans documentary, cultural and public communication contexts, grounded in years of commercial and informational production. We operate across formats, from short-form public communication to long-form documentary and exhibition projects, contributing animation sequences or full production development depending on the needs of each work.
The studio is increasingly drawn to projects where visual storytelling carries responsibility as well as expression, and where animation contributes meaningfully to a broader narrative framework.
We operate through a flexible production model, assembling project-specific teams from a trusted network of collaborators. This structure allows us to scale thoughtfully while maintaining cohesion, focus and consistency across every stage of production.
Yiannis approaches animation as both a narrative and structural discipline. His work is shaped by an interest in how stories are built, how tone is established and how visual language supports meaning rather than distracting from it.
With over a decade of experience in design and 2D animation, he has led animation direction across projects ranging from short-form public campaigns to long-form documentary and exhibition productions.
He founded one and a half to build a studio structure where animation is shaped through careful direction and considered development. His role is to hold the narrative line of each production, ensuring that visual decisions remain aligned with purpose and context.

We take time to understand the internal logic of the work: its purpose, its audience and the narrative structure that holds it together. Through research and collaborative dialogue, we shape a shared understanding of what the project needs to communicate and how it should feel.
